CONNECT: Foundations of Inclusion

Enrollment Duration: 90 Days

This course is intended to introduce you to the basics of inclusion and the rights and supports for children and teachers in early childhood education, and to help you understand the topics covered in the Project CONNECT Course series and the 5-step learning process by:
  1. Defining inclusion and describing four recent research findings related to inclusion;
  2. Understanding the legislation related to inclusion;
  3. Identifying 3 actions teachers can take; and
  4. Describing the 5-step learning process used in the Project CONNECT courses.

CONNECT: All, Some, and A Few - Tiered Instruction

Enrollment Duration: 90 Days

This course will introduce you to tiered instruction, also known as Response to Intervention (RTI) and Positive Behavioral Support (PBS). We will examine how a tiered approach can be used to enhance learning and development in young children and specific practices related to both social-emotional development and academic learning or cognitive development that can be used either independently or together by:
  • Describing effective tiered instruction related to social-emotional development and academic learning for use with young children in early care and education programs.
  • Using a decision-making process to help integrate various sources of evidence and determine whether tiered instruction could be used to promote positive behaviors and academic learning in young children in early care and education programs.

CONNECT Course: Storybook Conversations

Enrollment Duration: 90 Days

This course will introduce you to dialogic reading and describe how it can be used to promote the language and literacy skills of young children by:
  • Describing effective dialogic reading practices for use with young children in early care and education settings.
  • Using a decision-making process to help integrate various sources of evidence and determine whether dialogic reading will be beneficial for enhancing the language and literacy skills of young children in a particular context.

CONNECT: Weaving Inclusion into Everyday Activities

Enrollment Duration: 90 Days

In this course, you will learn about the practice of embedded interventions to help children participate in a variety of early learning opportunities and environments promoting high-quality inclusion by:
  • Explaining what is meant by embedded interventions to promote participation in inclusive settings.
  • Using a decision-making process to help a child participate more fully in an inclusive setting through embedded interventions.

CONNECT: Adaptations that Work

Enrollment Duration: 90 Days

In this course, you will learn about the purpose, use and potential benefits of assistive technology interventions when working with young children by:
  • Describing assistive technology interventions to promote children's access to and participation in inclusive settings.
  • Using a decision-making process to help integrate various sources of evidence and determine whether assistive technology interventions are appropriate for use within a specific context.

CONNECT: Communication for Professional Collaboration

Enrollment Duration: 90 Days

In this course, you will learn about effective communication practices that can be used to promote collaboration with professionals and families in early care and education, and intervention settings by:
  • Describing effective practices for communicating with professionals and families in the context of early education and intervention.
  • Using a decision-making process to select communication practices linked to specific purposes including attending and active listening, seeking and verifying, and supporting and joining.

CONNECT: Smooth Moves - Program Transitions

Enrollment Duration: 90 Days

In this course, you will learn about practices to help support children and families as they transition among programs in the early care and education system by:
  • Explaining what is meant by intentional activities to support planning before, during and after the transition.
  • Using a decision-making process to help a child and family be prepared for and adjust to a new environment.

CONNECT: Better Together - Powerful Family Partnerships

Enrollment Duration: 90 Days

In this course, you will learn about building trusting family-professional partnerships when working with families of young children by:
  • Describing effective practices for developing trusting family-professional partnerships in early care and education programs.
  • Using a decision-making process to select partnership-oriented practices linked to developing an initial friendly relationship, making shared decisions, and developing a trusting partnership with families to address challenging issues.
